New York and Illinois lose $5.2 billion while Texas and Florida gain $7.4 billion

While New York loses $3.2 billion to other states due to people moving away and Illinois nearly $2 billion, Texas gains $2.4 billion from in-migration and Florida nearly $5 billion.

That’s from the latest IRS migration data. It’s from 2010-2011, so it’s not exactly current, but it’s useful nonetheless. You can download state-to-state and county-to-county data for each state.

There are 26 states with net positive migration income and 24 with net negative. This is competitive federalism at work.
