The 7 states with the fastest rates of job growth

I’m excluding North Dakota, because its job growth – which exceeded 4% in 2013 –  is driven by its energy boom.

Seven other states — Texas, Florida, Idaho, Georgia, Oregon, Utah and Indiana — saw the number of jobs in their states increase by more than 2 percentage points over the last year.

You can find some commonalities among these states if you start to probe a bit. I’ll leave that to others.

What’s especially striking when you look at the map is how Indiana, among the 7 states, stands all by itself in the midwest. The Hoosier state – or the “Hoosier tiger,” as it was recently called – continues to exhibit more Sun Belt than Rust Belt characteristics.
