Did you know global poverty has dropped 80 percent in 40 years?

Here’s a data point worth reflecting on as we round out another year: in my lifetime, world poverty has dropped 80 percent, from 26.8 percent of the world’s population living on $1 or less per day to just 5.4 percent.

Not that I had anything to do with it. It had to do, in Arthur Brooks’ words, with “globalization, free trade, the boom in international entrepreneurship.” As he notes, no such achievement has ever happened before.
