2005: The year of the great separation

I was re-reading this essay by Wendell Cox in City Journal tonight, and this graph really stood out:

It’s amazing how closely the lines between CA and TX track with each other until 2005. ¬†After 2005, the Texas-vs-California phenomenon, which many of us wrote about, began in earnest. And with that split began a national debate about the policy and cultural conditions of growth itself. 2005 is the year of the great separation.
