America’s top 15 metro areas = the world’s 3rd largest economy

If America’s top 15 metro areas were a single country, they would be the world’s 3rd-largest economy.

Take a look at the chart that Mark Perry created below, which is based on the BEA’s recently released report (pdf) on the nation’s metropolitan regions.

Interesting stuff.

The nation’s 366 metro regions in the BEA report are responsible for about 90% of America’s total economic output, so in many ways, the report is a study of America’s economy.
