Birth rate drops to record low

…”The U.S. birth rate dropped to its lowest level since the beginning of the Great Depression, led by a drop among immigrants, according to a report┬ádata┬áreleased Thursday by the Pew Research Center.”

If the costs of the entitlement state alone don’t scare people into embracing reform, the downward trend in childbearing overall should have been ringing alarm bells for awhile now. Who exactly is going to pay for the programs we’re “protecting” for seniors?

As the article notes, the downward trend was driven by a drop in births to foreign-born mothers. We often hear about America’s strong record of fertility compared to Europe, but as the following visual from the Pew report shows, that has really been driven by immigrants the past couple decades, not our American-born population:
